AGENDA - LOCALIZED LAW ENFORCEMENT

What is LOCALIZED LAW ENFORCEMENT?
Local Law Enforcement in the State of Georgia should be under the direct control of locally elected officials, who are directly accountable to the local electorate.  This includes financing of local law enforcement, in that all financing of local law enforcement should come from tax revenues raised by the given locale, and NOT by any federal government entity or other government or non-government entity or entities.

This means that all municipal police departments should be fully funded by taxes raised by the given municipal corporation, and all training and supervision should be authorized and controlled by locally elected officials such as the mayor and city council, or by a police chief in the case that such a police chief is elected by the local electorate.

Likewise, all county sheriff departments should be fully funded by taxes raised by the given county, and all training and supervision should be authorized and controlled by the county sheriff who is elected by the local electorate of the given county.

And finally, all State of Georgia law enforcement agencies should be fully funded by taxes raised by the State of Georgia and all training and supervision should be authorized and controlled by the duly elected governor of the State of Georgia.

No federal or other "outside" funding or training or supervision or donations of equipment should be allowed for municipal, county, or state law enforcement, including law enforcement related investigation.  The purpose of such a localization law enforcement policy is to ensure that local law enforcement remains under the complete control of locally elected officials, who are accountable to the local electorate.  Only in this way will the people, who are subject to law enforcement, have the power to ensure that law enforcement is accountable to the local people themselves as a whole.  In addition to this requirement, all local law enforcement agencies should be fully funded so as to be able to provide proper law enforcement.  In other words, no defunding of the police should ever be allowed in the State of Georgia!

As state representative for house district 49, Michael Gordon will ensure that all legislation needed to implement this localization of law enforcement policy is introduced and promoted vigorously as long as he is in office.
